Planning application approved for static caravan site

27th August 2008

A planning application for a caravan park has been given the go-ahead after receiving some objections from local residents, who expressed concern over the site.

Residents at the park will no doubt have to get static caravan insurance after a government inspector overturned a Darlington Borough Council decision and granted permission for the park to be built.

Following the decision a site will be built with space for 80 static caravans, a swimming pool, three tennis courts and a new access road, the Darlington and Stockton Times reports.

After making an initial application for 100 caravans last year, Terry Ward made a revised request for a site with 80 homes that will certainly need static caravan insurance.

Commenting on the contentious decision, government inspector Robin Brooks, said: "In this case, I consider that any deficiencies the site may have in terms of being a sustainable location are outweighed by the benefits of reclaiming derelict land and putting it to productive use."

Over 400 people backed plans for the site and Mr Brooks said that building would start once the paperwork was complete.
