Caravaners should get insurance and head for Spain

11th June 2008

Caravaners looking for a cheap motoring holiday should head for Spain, according to new research.

The Post Office Motoring on the Continent report has discovered that although holidaymakers taking a caravan to Swtizerland would get the lowest pump prices, Spain offers the best overall value.

Those considering traveling abroad need to make sure they get adequate insurance for their caravan and its contents as well as making the most of cheap petrol prices.

Post Office head of travel Helen Warburton said: "Underlying prices had gone up by only five per cent in Switzerland and by six per cent in Italy, which looks the best value within the eurozone. Using this formula, France has seen the biggest price rise across Europe of 18 per cent."

Travelers should save money on their caravan insurance by shopping around and should use the extra cash to get out of the UK for their holidays as it has the highest petrol price hikes.

According to the post office report there had been a 20 per cent increase in petrol prices and the sterling "has fallen in value by 14 per cent against the euro in the past year".
