Caravanning becoming 'more popular'
7th August 2008
Those hoping to escape the credit crunch are saving money on their holidays by choosing to go camping instead.
That is according to a number of caravan parks who have noticed a significant increase in the number of people booking trips to camping sites.
An accident on the A14 earlier this week, however, will serve as a reminder to campers of the importance of getting touring caravan insurance.
Cambridge News online reported that a caravan had overturned and caused "lengthy tailbacks".
The resurgence of camping has spread across the south coast of the country, according to thisisdorset.net.
Ali Stamper, who runs east fleet farm touring park in Chickerell, Weymouth, said she has been forced to turn holidaymakers away.
She explained: "We're fully booked, which is great, but we're having to say no to many people on the telephone.
"I think there are more people coming camping for the first time, just trying it out, because of the money situation."
