Team completes FIA's EcoTour of Europe

23rd September 2008

The Caravan Club has completed its involvement in the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile's (FIA) EcoTour.

Spanning some 2,500 km and taking in nine European countries, the tour is widely considered one of the top events in the annual caravanning timetable.

The majority of teams are drawn from FIA member clubs across the continent - all of whom sought to demonstrate the environmental benefits of eco-driving techniques.

What's more, this year the Caravan Club further highlighted the financial benefits associated with reduced fuel consumption that can also be enjoyed by green driving.

Having secured caravan insurance for its Lunar Zenith 5 lightweight vehicle, towed by a Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi ECOnetic, the team set off in high spirits on September 13th.

Their route took in Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands, winding up in The Hague where they were met by 250 invited guests of the Dutch touring club.

This year's team was made up of lead driver George Hinton, deputy editor of the Caravan Club Magazine, and club technical manager Martin Spencer.
