Touring caravan insurance "often advisable"
15th July 2008
A price comparison website has revealed that some caravan owners are unaware that their vehicle is only covered on a third-party basis while it is being towed.
Confused.com has advised that it is therefore important that holidaymakers check their touring caravan insurance before they leave.
Simon Lamble, product director at Confused.com, commented that whilst caravanning holidays provided a "relatively hassle-free holiday", holidaymakers would be wise to make some checks before making a trip.
Mr Lamble has said that often separate cover is required. He explained: "Caravanners are advised to check with their insurers that they will be covered for any trips, especially if they will be spending a lot of time in a designated holiday camp."
Although some caravans are covered under car insurance, Mr Lamble advised that those types of policies often only apply "while the caravan is attached to the vehicle, so separate cover is often advisable".
